A note on the sex ratio in anencephalus.

While exploring the association of the sex ratio of stillbirths with cause and duration of gestation, McKeown and Lowe (1951) noted that for anencephalus sex ratio increased with duration of gestation. No explanation was offered for this observation, which is here considered briefly. In Birmingham, during the years 1940-51, 454 stillbirths and 28 infant deaths were attributed to anencephalus (4...

A note on secular changes in the human sex ratio at birth.

Investigations of secular changes in the live-birth sex ratios of different countries have given conflicting results (Gini, 1908; Russell, 1936; Ciocco, 1938; Strandskov, 1942; Martin, 1943). In general the data are unsatisfactory, either because numbers of births are small, or because of inaccuracies and deficiencies in birth notification. The sex ratio in convulsive disorders with a note on single-sex sib-ships.

Gonadotrophin and the human secondary sex ratio.

A review of published reports showed that the sex ratio (proportion of boys) was low among infants conceived after ovulation had been induced. The difference between the observed sex ratio and an expected one of 0 . 514 was highly significant. These findings suggest that maternal gonadotrophin concentrations at the time of conception directly affect the sex of the zygote.

Human Behaviour: Sex Ratio and the City

The ratio of males to females in a population is known to influence the behaviour, life histories and demography of animals. A recent experimental study finds that sex ratio also affects human economic behaviour, and in a manner consistent with evolutionary theory.
